Local train line services reach Alameda station again

After two years of closure for construction works to carry out expansion to the tunnel and comprehensive remodelling of installations, the Cercanías trains which provide local service are, as from last Tuesday, stopping at the Alameda station (next to the post office) which is the closest stop to the town centre. The service provided is the same as it was before the closure, with a train leaving every 30 minutes, on the hour and on the half hour. The first train from Malaga will leave at 5.30 am and the last at 10.30 pm whilst the first departure from Fuengirola will be at 6.30 am and the last at 11.30 pm. It will take 48 minutes to travel from Malaga to Fuengirola.

The Secretary of State for Transport, Concepción Gutiérrez and the President of the Railways Services Administration, Antonio González, visited the newly opened installations on Monday and announced that on Tuesday access from Calle Alemania and Cuarteles would be opened followed by the opening of the third entrance which would lead to the post office, by the end of this week.

The innovative design is the work of architect José Seguí. The C-1 line will transport more than nine million passengers a year, making it one of the most profitable lines in Spain.

Representatives of the Ministry of Public Works together with Socialist MP Miguel Ángel Heredia have met with the mayors of the Guadalhorce region whose communities will be served by the C-2 line (Cártama, Álora y Pizarra) to reach an agreement about improvements in the service. One such improvement will be the introduction of the new Civia model from 5 April as well as the improvement of the smaller stations and an adjustment in timetables to bring them in line with the real needs of the public. Heredia is grateful for the commitment of the Government to the installation of new generation trains in the Guadalhorce region.

When asked about the future of land set aside for the construction of the walkway over the railway tracks, the President of Adif confirmed that a rough draft of the agreement had already been sent to the Mayor, Francisco de la Torre. Without wanting to go into details about the amount of compensation, he indicated that the document addressed the Tpwn Hall´s commitment to Adif in all aspects, including the walkway. Issues included in the document include authorisation blocks, the restoration of roof constructions in the María Zambrano station and improvements at Los Prados.

He also took the time to make a specific reference to the project of the Costa del Sol railway. Concepción Gutiérrez said that the Government is taking the necessary legislative steps to allow the investment of private capital in a joint enterprise between the Public Works department and the Junta.
