Make your vote count

If you keep up with the UK news, you´ll be aware that an election has to take place before the 3rd June this year.

What you may not be aware of, is that you may still be eligible to vote, even if you live abroad.

There are only a small number of British expatriates on the electoral register considering how easy the process is.

If you have been registered to vote in the UK at any time during the last 15 years, you can still make your vote count by visiting www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/overseas where you can download an overseas registration form which will require basic personal details and a signature from you and a witness. The website will tell you where to send your completed form and will depend on your last registered address in the UK.

Once you have registered, there are various ways you can actually vote; if you are back in the UK at the time of the election, you can go to the polling station, if you are overseas, you can submit your vote by post by completing the form you will find on the website. Alternatively, if you still have family or friends over there, you can apply for them to vote for you by proxy.

Voting in the UK election does not affect your right to voted in local Spanish or European elections. To vote in these, you must register with your Town Hall on the “padron” and once you have done that, you can sign up to vote.
