FACE LIFT FOR BEACHES BEFORE EASTER HOLIDAYS

The rain endured during the past months in large parts of Andalucia have not only resulted in countless homes being destroyed and as much as 427,000 hectares of agricultural land suffering damade but also in endless kilometers of beaches which have been washed away or littered with vegetation, debris and other rubbish.

With Easter only a couple of weeks away, the Ministry of the Environment announced on Wednesday that it would provide 80 million euros to urgently repair the damage to the beaches and coastal areas around Andalucia.

The reality in the political arena appears to be rather less upbeat with local politicians complaining that nothing has been done yet and sources at the Ministry of the Environment now stating that all that can be done for Easter is a “face lift” by removing the vegetation, stones and other debris currently littering most of the beaches in the region.
