SPANISH KING DOING WELL AFTER SURGERY

Spain’s King Juan Carlos I is very well after his weekend operation to remove a benign growth on his lung, Queen Sofia told reporters Monday.

The 72-year old monarch, who underwent surgery on Saturday to remove a growth that doctors said showed no signs of malignancy, spent a very good night said Queen Sofia said as she arrived at a Barcelona hospital.

The King received visits from his son Prince Felipe and his wife Princess Letizia as well as from his two daughters Princess Elena and Princess Cristina, who made the trip from Washington where she now lives to be by her father’s bedside. She commented that she really wanted to see for herself how he was even though she had spoken to him on the telephone.

On Sunday evening the hospital said it was extremely satisfied with the king’s progress and would be giving an update on his progress on Monday evening.
